ABOUT CIAC

The global legal landscape is rapidly shifting from ad-hoc arbitration toward institutionalized frameworks that offer certainty, speed, and transparency. The Northern corridor- comprising the industrial hubs of Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh-remains underserved by a dedicated, world-class international arbitration facility.

It is with a vision to transform the dispute resolution landscape of Northern India that this proposal for the establishment of the Chandigarh International Arbitration Centre (CIAC) is being submitted. This initiative seeks to provide a world-class, institutionalized platform for arbitration, drawing inspiration from the success of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), Delhi International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) and other domestic and international arbitration hubs, while integrating the technological and procedural advancements of 2026.

STRATEGIC IMPACT

.

The establishment of CIAC will significantly boost the "Ease of Doing Business" in the region. By providing a "Safe Seat" for arbitration, Chandigarh can attract higher Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and reduce the backlog of commercial litigation currently pending in the civil courts.

As India strives toward a $5 trillion economy, the "Ease of Doing Business" is inextricably linked to the "Ease of Resolving Disputes". Chandigarh, with its superior infrastructure and judicial heritage, is the natural heir to a new era of institutional arbitration. There is a need to create a legal ecosystem that is efficient, technologically advanced, and globally competitive. We are confident that the CIAC will serve as a beacon of modern justice, positioning Chandigarh as the "Arbitration Capital of North India."
